There is a total of 250 U.S. Census Tracts in the State of Rhode Island, however 3 tracts cover water only (and not land) and one tract encompasses the airport and contains no population. The water only tracts (3) and the airport tract (1) were deducted from the total to calculate the percentage of tracts meeting threshold used to quantify significant SPG presence within RI’s 246 tracts holding population.
A 75th percentile threshold was used to quantify a significant presence for each Select Population Group (SPG) within RI tracts. The 75th percentile was calculated using only tracts with an SPG population greater than zero to avoid skewing results and lowering % thresholds below the State Average.
Symbology was initially classified using Quantile distribution than manually adjusted for visual balance or rounding of numbers. The lowest symbol value is the exact threshold value, and the top value is the rounded highest value in the data.
