This layer shows the language or language groups spoken at home by English ability. This is shown by tract boundaries for the state of Rhode Island. This service is updated annually to contain the most current American Community Survey (ACS) 5-year data from the U.S. Census Bureau, and contains estimates and margins of error. There are also additional calculated attributes related to this topic, which can be mapped or used within analysis. <\/SPAN><\/P>

Three fields, Vintage, Date Downloaded, and Updated, were added to the dataset. Vintage is the time period that the data spans, as noted by the Census. Date downloaded is the date that RIDSP downloaded the data from the Esri Living Atlas, and Update is the field used to note the date in which any updates may have occurred (such as calculations). The Rhode Island Division of Statewide Planning calculated the percent of population age 5+ who speak (Spanish/Other Indo-European/French, Haitian, or Cajun/Other Asian, Pacific Islander/Chinese (incl. Mandarin, Cantonese) at home and speak English less than very well. This was done by calculating the population of age 5+ who speak (Spanish/Other Indo-European/French, Haitian, or Cajun/Other Asian, Pacific Islander/Chinese (incl. Mandarin, Cantonese) at home and speak English less than very well and dividing it by the total population age 5+ and multiplying that answer by 100.<\/SPAN><\/P>
